International leader on "Solving Tough Problems" and New York Times Science Writer come to San Francisco to Help Bay Area Leaders Address Climate Crisis

Bay Area leaders from government, business, schools, and the community will convene at the 2nd Annual Climate All Stars Conference <mailto:http://www.climateallstars.org> <http://www.climateallstars.org%3e/> on November 6th in San Francisco, to showcase "real solutions for speed and scale."

Morning keynote speaker Adam Kahane will open the conference. Kahane authored the book "Solving Tough Problems: An Open Way of Talking, Listening, and Creating New Realities," and is an internationally-known facilitator of processes through which business, government, and civil society leaders tackle the world's most intractable problems. Kahane will address why global warming is the extreme example of a tough problem, why it is solvable, and what it will take. He has worked in more than fifty countries, in every part of the world, with executives and politicians, generals and guerillas, civil servants and trade unionists, community activists and United Nations officials, clergy and artists. In 1991 and 1992, Kahane facilitated the Mont Fleur Scenario Project, in which a diverse group of South Africans worked together to effect the transition from apartheid to democracy.

Luncheon keynote speaker Andrew Revkin is an award-winning author and New York Times reporter who has written about the climate crisis for twenty years. Mr. Revkin will forecast the impact of the Nov. 4 elections on climate protection.

Conference host Fran Pavley will preside over the day's events. Pavley authored California's landmark legislation on global warming that is a model for other states and countries. She served three terms in California's State Assembly and is currently a candidate for State Senate.

More than 20 other speakers and panelists will offer their top climate protection solutions. Peter Barnes, author of "Capitalism 3.0," will describe Cap and Dividend, a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously boosting the green economy. Edie Chang from the California Office of Climate Change will update participants on the state's plan to regulate global warming pollution. Attorney and business consultant Ed Quevedo will outline the future for sustainable businesses. Renewable financing expert Paul Fenn will describe how communities can make the switch from fossil fuels to renewables.

Climate All Star award-winners will also be announced at the conference. Winners will present their climate protection solutions in areas such as energy efficiency, financing, transportation and land use, and public/private partnerships.

The Climate All Stars Conference is designed to inspire and accelerate innovative climate protection measures and to identify opportunities to collaborate regionally. More than 70 partners, sponsors, and exhibitors come together to produce this conference at Saint Mary's Cathedral.

Scientists say greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced at least 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050, equal to 1.5 tons of emissions per person per year. In California, current output is 14 tons per person. Under current legislation, the Global Warming Solutions Act or AB32, California will achieve only 11 tons per person.

The Sonoma-based Climate Protection Campaign is organizing the conference. The Campaign inspires action in response to the climate crisis by advancing practical, science-based solutions for significant greenhouse gas reductions. The Campaign works with government, business and the whole community locally, regionally, and at the state level.
